The sun

is making itself rare these days, which is not doing a lot to lift the overall mood or photo quality. The yard is full of regulars, and I am happily helping them to eat well to make it through the cold. One of the most diligent is this Red-breasted Nuthatch lady. I have two couples at most, and whenever I come out for a refill, she is the first to come, even when I still stand there. I love these birds.

I am so delighted

about the Titmice. Maybe they are just here temporarily, but maybe they will stay throughout the cold season as they used to have before they stopped coming. I am also seeing more Chickadees. The Titmouse is a young bird, and just judging from the perfect appearance of the Chickie, I am thinking he might be as well.

The baby birds are coming!

When I set up the feeders this morning, Momma Robin was scolding me in an unusual way. Well, she had a reason - her baby has fledged. And it is the tiniest Robin I have ever seen out of a nest. He can’t even fly yet. This is normal for a Robin fledgling. The parents are leading him around the yard while looking for food, and feed him. The lawn needs to be mowed but I think that can wait another day. Those tail feathers!

Video: Ruby-throated Hummingbird

This morning at 6.30 AM, a Ruby-throated Hummingbird man checked in. I have so little hummingbird action this May that I had started to think they are avoiding my yard this year. And every time I see one, I hope it sticks around and comes back. We will see how this goes. I am glad I set Birdsy up with the Hummer feeder, otherwise I would have missed him.

Video: FOY Rubythroated Hummingbird

Today finally was the day where I saw my first Rubythroated Hummingbird of the season. Usually, I see them around the beginning of May, and I was impatiently waiting. We are having another night frost tonight but I hope this is the last of it - the forecast looks good.
