Redwinged Blackbirds are interesting
Redwinged Blackbirds are interesting to me because they are one of the harbingers of spring, they carry the German flag and a Pearl Jam song on their feathers, they have an interesting song and they are feisty when they defend a nest. They are also very beautiful, and the females none less than the males. In recent days, I have seen females a lot all over the yard and feeders, so there were good opportunities to get photos. I love the faint red on their shoulders.
I always like it
when I see bird couples coming to the yard. The Cardinals do it, the Finches, and probably everybody else too but you just can’t tell that good if they look alike. The male Redbellied Woodpecker has made himself rare all year but today he was here. And his lady was there as well. She is the one with the blue-gray forehead.
As I promised,
here are some more Bluebird photos. And it is funny, but sometimes I feel like my setup was just made for them, they usually get the best shots and videos. It might be their size but maybe also their behavior. They seemingly like to sit and examine. With resting birb face 🤣 The second to last photo nicely shows the color difference between male (left) and female (right) 💙
White-breasted Nuthatches
might be hard to tell apart from afar, but there are way to differentiate the males from the females. The males have a black head cap, while the markings of the females are more subtle. The same is true for Red-breasted Nuthatches, by the way. Here, you have the male in the first photo and the female in the second (with added Chickie photobomb).
Ladies and gents...
It is always nice to see the different appearances of male and female birds. Some of them are more striking, like the Cardinals, others are more subtle, like the Bluebirds. I personally find them equally beautiful.
