December 1 on a Friday
is just as good as any occasion to post some Tufties. They’ve been very busy building their winter stashes, all the while entertaining with their looks and sounds. Have a fabulous weekend and stay warm!
Friday is here,
and to celebrate the occasion, here are some Titmouse photos. I have not seen much of these guys during spring and summer but right now, along with Blue Jays and MoDos, they are ruling the backyard. I will never get tired of watching them or listening to them, they are just one of the most adorable birds we have here.
It continues
to be quiet in the yard, with very little bird activity. I haven’t seen a hummer since the 15th, so I may just as well put the hummer cam to a different use (I will still leave two feeders out for a bit for any stragglers.) Much to my delight, the Titmouse keeps returning, and the Chippies are happy to fill their winter pantry. Let’s see what today brings.
Peter peter peter!
The Titmice have been very active recently, loudly chattering at feeders and feeding each other. I absolutely adore these guys that look like straight out of a Disney movie and hope to see babies coming soon too ❤️
Two cuties to go into the weekend.
The Bluebirds are visiting every day but she has still not started to build yet. I recognize her by her furrowed brow. Her man is around a lot more but I hope when we go into April she will finally get to work on her nest. The Titmice were plenty and vocal today, and this one just cracked me up. Here’s to a great weekend!
There was also
a Titmouse bonanza! I love seeing them up close because they are such pretty birds with so many adorable details.
I am so happy
to see that the Titmice have found their way back here. They are not just totally adorable but also a lot of fun to watch and listen to. In the spring, you can hear their surprisingly loud PETERPETERPETER sounding through the air. Right now, they sound a lot like Chickadees, making grumpy little noises when they are not happy with the spread or notice competition.
As someone from the middle of Germany,
I have always loved having four seasons, and Michigan is a great place to be with that. I can see beauty in all four of them, and it is lovely to have them all here. Snow days are fun because there is a bit more activity at feeders, and I love the pale background for photos too. The birds are all slightly more agitated as well, which can produce some fun shots. Here are some from today. It is wonderful to see more of the Titmouse again. The Goldfinches are still quite vibrant, and having the King of the Yard over is always a treat.
I was feeling adventurous
and put one of the hummer feeders on my photo setup. They are coming but I have not seen one yet and we got snow today. But oh well. I did get a Tufted Titmouse, which I haven’t seen in quite a bit.
Video: Looks who's back!
Temperatures have gotten a little milder, and last night, this cutie came over. He/ she looks quite sturdy and moves very carefully so we think it might be a mommy to be. (I have sped the video up in the middle part) It would be so cool to see an Opossum waddling around with babies on their back.
It's been a wild couple of days
but in the yard, things have been rather calm. The weather is meh, and the birds are scarce. But today, the Titmice were back. And they were so vocal! Come good into Friday!
The Tufted Titmouse
is one of the cutest visitors I have around here, and I am so happy that they made a comeback after having been gone for two years from my yard. Titmice often flock with Chickadees and have an impressive call that can be quite melodious and goes PETERPETERPETER! And that is the November bird in my calendar.
You can get an Ostdrossel calendar here at ostdrossel.com or here.
Also keep an eye on my Insta and FB tomorrow, there will be a little Christmas surprise.
There seems to be no bird in my yard
with more “facial expressions” than the Tufted Titmouse. I also think puppy eyes should be renamed to Titter eyes 😆 Cause who could say No to that?
A proud Titter
with a big price. I have enjoyed these warm November days. We did some yard maintenance today because the temps are about to drop, including mowing some of the leaves. Did you know not raking all leaves will help increase the population of insects like glow bugs in the following season?
Amongst the several Titmice
that are here right now, there is one that is more distinguishable than the others, it looks like it has eyeliner on. It is the one in the middle. They are all very good at guilt-tripping! Don’t let that get to you though, I hope you all have a fantastic start into the week.
I am still impatiently waiting
for the return of the Redbreasted Nuthatches but in the meantime, the Titmice are wonderful to have around. After an initial shyness around the cameras, they are now super curious and inquisitive and make many trips to check if more food is there. I am also really getting a kick out of their vocalizations.
