Long time no Blue Jay!
Even if they have been present and are regulars here, shame on me. I always find it funny how these birds are seemingly greedy for food but at the same time alert everybody when the feeders have been replenished. Such goofballs! They look so similar from afar but there are distinctive differences between them. I especially love the ones with the dotted foreheads.
The other day,
I read that Blue Jays possibly use their black head and neck markings to identify each other. One year I tried to count how many different individuals I had with photos, comparing the markings. It was a fruitless effort with all the detail but every now and then, some are sticking out a bit. It is cool to know they might be doing just the same.
It was cold today,
but the sun was shining. In fact, it was so bright outside, I felt like I needed sunglasses. It felt so good. And the birds looked happy too. (House Finch, Junco, female Bluebirds, Blue Jay, Chickadee. Goldfinch)
Pretties
on another murky day. The Redbellied woodpecker situation is interesting this winter too. I seem to only have females around. The male has not shown up in a long time. The Blue Jays seem to know the sound of my back door by now, they swoop down immediately as soon as I leave from a refill. I hope the sun will come out at some point this coming week. Here's to Monday, may only good things happen!
More teens
Namely: Cardinal (it was getting dark so the photo is not superb but I was so excited to finally get her), Red-winged Blackbird, Blue Jay, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, House Finch (she is the most adorable little thing, and somehow the only young House Finch I have been seeing on a regular basis around the feeders. She has some odd feathers on her tail, maybe that’s why.)
I am having a very busy work week, so I haven’t posted many photos, but I put the cams out and they have been diligently taking photos. I just need to find the time for editing. Hopefully, things calm down a bit next week. Have a beautiful Friday and weekend!
