Video: Bling for the yard!

I am always exploring new options for feeders to try and keep my videos and photos interesting. Often, feeders are more function than design, so I was delighted when the people from Moore Birdfeeders approached me to try out some of their work. Seen here is their “Diamond”, an absolutely stunning piece of art, made from glass and brass that adds some serious bling to the backyard. The coolest thing is that it can also work as a terrarium. I hung it yesterday, and so far, the Goldfinches have basically started to call it their home. I am also going to try out their Oriole feeder but it is still a bit too early to out that out. The company is Canada-based and can be found on social media as well as at mooredesignbirdfeeders.com Mother’s Day is coming!

The so-called Snowbird,

or Dark-eyed Junco, is a very interesting bird to watch for the cold season. They come in all kinds of funky colorings, and are another bird that birdwatchers have fun with to figure out if they have a rarity around. Look up the Oregon variety for a lead to go down the Junco rabbit hole. Anyways, I think this is a healthy female. In reality, I am not sure of the gender of this bird, though. Stay warm and stay safe and wear a mask while you slide into the week!

Ragnar and Lagertha

and their brood have been pretty much absent since the last set of babies fledged. I have heard them in the trees and seen them hunting nearby though, so I hope they will be visiting more frequently when it cools down. Last night, one of the first babies showed up, in all it’s teenage feather glory.

Today when I walked outside

to refill the feeders, I heard a familiar birdsong that I hadn't heard in way too long. And lo and behold - there was a group of at least three Tufted Titmice, happily checking out the buffet and singing away. I hope they stay, I have been missing them! (The one in the picture appears to be a young one.) Interestingly enough, I also recently heard people say they spotted red-breasted Nuthatches. I haven’t had any of those guys last winter, so I hope this year they will be back too. And Pine Siskins!

This lady is a goofball

and she cracks me up! In the middle photo she saw another Hummingbird approaching. I am really enjoying it that their activity has picked up. This almost feels normal.
