September of my 2025 calendar
shows a young Mourning Dove. It has left the ugly fledgling state and has a very interesting, and I find, beautiful look with pretty patterns on the feathers. It already has the temperament of the adults too, as you can see in this photo where it starts to fend off a food competitor by raising the wing. The October bird is one of the lovely Redbellied Woodpeckers that are around here year-round. I found this photo fun because it is a bit unusual in the pose.
