A visitor that is not really
that rare but has not shown up a lot on the cams has started to come back, the Downy Woodpecker. This is a male, as can be seen by the red mark on the back of his head that the females do not have. This is the smallest American woodpecker. It looks very similar to the Hairy Woodpecker with the most obvious difference being the size and beak length (Hairys look like Downys on steroids and have longer beaks.)
